SFA Launches Student Rewards Program
Aug. 30, 2007
NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The 16 intercollegiate sports sponsored by the Stephen F. Austin athletics department have combined for 20 Southland Conference championships, five trips to the NCAA Championships and an NCAA Tournament win. But if students still need a reason to get out and attend Lumberjack and Ladyjack events, they're about to get one.
Starting with Saturday's football season opener against Tarleton State, SFA students will be rewarded for their attendance at home sporting events, thanks to the new 'Jack Team Rewards program. The program targets students by offering incrementally more prestigious prizes based on the number of SFA events they attend. The more events a student attends, the better the prizes he can earn.
'Jack Team Rewards is the brainchild of Cole Campbell, who works in the athletics department as a marketing and promotions specialist.
"The program is designed to reward those students who already attend games and entice those students who may not be going to many games," Campbell said. "It's absolutely free to the students, so they have nothing to lose and a ton of great rewards to gain."
The rewards start after a student attends 10 home sporting events, when he is eligible for a free Team Rewards T-shirt. The next level of prize is a Nike duffle bag with the SFA logo embroidered on it and can be earned by attending 22 games. At 36 games, the ante is upped again, this time with an SFA logo-embroidered fleece pullover up for grabs. Once a student makes it to 70 games, he will be eligible to receive an exclusive reward. Only those who earn it will know what it is. And, at the end of the 2007-08 school year, the SFA student who attends more games than anyone else, will receive the 'Jack Team Rewards grand prize -- a year's worth of free groceries from Brookshire Brothers.
The execution of the program is simple. The athletics department will staff a 'Jack Team Rewards table at every home event. The tables are equipped with scanning machines that read the magnetic strip on the back of SFA student identification cards. At the end of the day, the information from the scanners is uploaded to the 'Jack Team Rewards web site (www.jackteamrewards.com), where the system tallies the total events for each student and orders them in a leaderboard set-up. Students can then access the site and check their status to see when they are eligible for new rewards and how they stack up against their classmates in the hunt for the grand prize. Once students reach a new rewards plateau, they can pick up their prize the following business day at the SFA athletics field house. Since students receive free admission to home events by presenting their student ID, there is absolutely no cost for the program.
The program is entirely self-supported through sponsorship money. The 'Jack Team Rewards sponsors include Brookshire Brothers, Lumberjack Bail Bonds, Sunset Beach Tanning, Headliners Sports Bar, Commercial Bank of Texas, John Heath Jr., Kampus Books, and Main Street Salon.
