Pate To Miss 3-4 Weeks

Sept. 1, 2000

CONTACT: Rob Meyers

NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- Stephen F. Austin quarterback Wes Pate will miss the next three to four weeks after suffering a sprained medial collateral ligament in his left knee in Thursday night's 38-31 overtime win over Central Oklahoma.

Pate injured the knee late in the fourth quarter. On the night the Arp junior was 15 of 30 for 218 yards and one interception. He also connected with Marshall sophomore Lawrence Hamilton for an 80-yard touchdown strike with 1:21 remaining in the first half to give SFA a 21-3 halftime lead. Pate also had five carries for -10 yards rushing.

Fifth year senior Travis Fallon stepped in for the injured Pate last night and directed the Lumberjacks during the overtime period to a score, connecting with Scott Keys for a 17-yard gain, then hitting Freddy Lyons on an 8-yard slant for the winning score.

The `Jacks return to action September 9 when they play host to Texas A&M-Commerce at Homer Bryce Stadium for a 7:00 start.
