SFA Athletes Earn Player of the Week Honors

PLANO, Texas - Senior defensive back Ryan Luedecke was named Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Week and sophomore punter Ryan Gooch earned SLC Special Teams Player of the Week honors league officials announced Monday afternoon.
Luedecke led a defensive effort that forced five turnovers against Southern Utah and held the Thunderbirds to only 17 points Saturday in Cedar City, Utah. He recorded a team-high 11 tackles (four solo stops), including two tackles for a loss, for the `Jacks. Luedecke was also credited with one forced fumble, one pass deflection and two quarterback hurries.
Gooch was named SLC Special Teams Player of the Week after recording a 38.8 yards per punt average. Gooch was called on to the punt five times against Southern Utah, downing one punt inside the 20-yard line. Gooch also recorded a career-best 59-yard punt in the victory.
The Lumberjacks will take the week off before returning to action on Saturday Oct. 8, to face Nicholls State. The game against the Colonels is slated to begin at 2 p.m., from Homer Bryce Stadium.
