Bowers, Allen Set To Return Against Southern Utah
Oct. 3, 2002 Senior fullback Will Bowers and sophomore running back Gary Allen could both see action this week as the Lumberjacks play host to Southern Utah Saturday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. Both have been out of the lineup since early in fall camp. Bowers, a senior from Dayton, underwent surgery on a toe to remove a cyst and is now recovered well enough to play. Bowers and head coach Mike Santiago discussed the possibility of redshirting this season, but Bowers has decided that with seven games remaining, he would like to play. Santiago said on Wednesday night's "Lumberjack Live" radio show that he would like to see both Bowers and Allen in the lineup as the 'Jacks prepare for the SLC opener with Nicholls State next week. Allen has also been sidelined since before the season began with a broken toe. He returned to practice earlier this week, and much like Bowers, has decided that he would like to try to play the final seven games of the season. Kickoff for Saturday's final non-conference game is set for 4:00 p.m. at Homer Bryce Stadium. The 'Jacks enter Satruday's game with a 2-2 mark with both losses coming on the road to ranked opponents. Southern Utah is 1-3 on the year and lost last week to Southwest Texas, 49-19. |
