Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack head football coach J.C. Harper has his squad out to its best start since the 2004 season, and riding a five-game win streak. The Lumberjacks' start to the 2009 season has Harper among those being considered for the 2009 Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year Award.

Lumberjack fans can also have a say in helping Coach Harper receives the honor. The voting for the Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year honor comes it three phases, and the first phase is fan voting. Fans wishing to select Coach Harper can do so by clicking here, or by clicking on the Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year button of the SFA Athletics web site. The other two phases of the selection process consist of an evaluation process, and the finalist fan voting and committee voting.

The annual recipient of the award receives $50,000 for his charitable causes, and an additional $20,000 will be donated to the alumni association of each winner's school. In addition, the winners are recognized within a permanent exhibit at the College Football Hall of Fame.

The 'Jacks are 5-1 on the season, and perfect 2-0 in Southland Conference play. The 15th-ranked (Sports Network poll) Lumberjacks returns to action Saturday when they host rival Sam Houston State at 2 p.m. in Homer Bryce Stadium. The 'Jacks will be looking to end a five-game slide against the Bearkats.
