SFA Receiver Named to Freshman Award Watch List
Oct. 25, 2012
NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Just days after senior Cordell Roberson was named to the Walter Payton Award Watch List, Stephen F. Austin freshman receiver D.J. Ward has been named to the College Football Performance Awards Freshman Performer of the Year Watch List.
The Woodlands, Texas, native is one of 30 rookies, and the lone Southland Conference player, named to the watch list. He is only one of six receivers being considered by the CFPA.
While Roberson has taken most the headlines this season, Ward has quietly become a clutch target for quarterback Brady Attaway. Ward is second on the team with 33 catches for 509 yards and two touchdowns. He also leads the squad averaging 15.4 yards per catch.
Ward has turned up his production in the past two games recording consecutive 100-yard receiving games. During that stretch Ward is averaging 7.5 receptions, 120 yards and one touchdown per game, including a season-long 77-yard reception against Sam Houston State.
The Lumberjacks will be back in action Saturday when they travel to Lake Charles, La., to face McNeese State. The game will kickoff at 7 p.m. and will be televised on the Southland Network (KCEB-TV).
