SFA Looks to Get Back in the Win Column Against Nicholls Saturday

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack football team (6-2/3-1 SLC) will look to put a dissapointing 28-7 setback at Texas State behind them as they return home Saturday to host Nicholls. The Colonels enter the game 1-7 (.125) on the season and 0-4 in Southland Conference play. Nicholls has dropped six consecutive games since defeating Duquesne, 14-7. The Colonels are coming off a 38-17 setback against #13 McNeese State. Saturday's game is slated to begin at 6 p.m. from Homer Bryce Stadium. The Lumberjacks lead the all-time series against Nicholls, 18-7 (.720), and have won three of the last four meetings between the two schools. The 'Jacks are 10-3 (.769) all-time against the Colonels in Nacogdoches, and had a 10-game home win streak snapped against Nicholls during the 2007 season. SFA recorded a 50-39 win over Nicholls last season in Thibodaux, La. Fourteen seniors will be playing there final home game at Homer Bryce Stadium. The SFA Class of 2009 consists of Cory Barlow, Duane Brooks, Chris Garrison, Karl Glimp, Andre Hicks, Max Holmes, Tim Knicky, Contrevious Parks, Daniel Patricio, Vincent Pervis, Aaron Rhea, Tyrone Ross and Efrain Sanchez. The Lumberjacks were shutout out in the first half against Texas State, and were held to only seven points for the game. It marked the first time all season that SFA has not managed a point in the opening half, and the first time since facing TCU last season that the 'Jacks have been unable to score double-figure points. It also marked the first time all season that SFA has trailed in a game after three quarters. Junior quarterback Jeremy Moses became the school's all-time leader in TD passes with his three scoring strikes at Central Arkansas. He now holds the SFA career marks for completions and touchdown passes, and needs less than 1,000 passing yards to become the school's all-time leader in that category. The Lumberjacks had not only there six-game win streak snapped in San Marcos, but Jeremy Moses had a string of 110 consecutive passes without a pick ended with his interception prior to halftime. J.C. Harper became the 18th head coach of the SFA Lumberjack football team in December, 2006. Harper spent two seasons as the defensive coordinator before taking over as head coach. He is 10-21 (.323) during his time at SFA. Nicholls head coach Jay Thomas is 25-34 (.424) in his fifth season in Thibodaux, La.
