Wiggs Receives Conference, National Honors

FRISCO, Texas - Sophomore kicker Jordan Wiggs has been named Southland Conference Special Teams Player of the Week announced league officials Monday morning. In addition to the conference honor, Wiggs has also received College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) National Placekicker of the Week recognition. Sophomore Darren Robinson was named CFPA National Defensive Lineman of the Week.
Wiggs was key in helping the Lumberjacks hold off a late rally by Lamar. The Grand Prairie, Texas, native was a perfect 4-of-4 on field goal, and 4-of-4 on extra point attempts. His 16 points were the difference the game.
Wiggs has been one of the nation's most accurate kickers since the third week of the season. After missing his first three field goal attempts, he has now hit eight-straight and 13 of his last 14. Wiggs enters the game against Southeastern Louisiana ranked among the nation's top 10 in field goals.
Robinson was a disruptive force against Lamar. The Dallas, Texas native recorded four tackles including three for losses against the Cardinals. He was also credited with two sacks for 15 yards in losses, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery.
The Lumberjacks return to action Saturday when they travel to Hammond, La., to take on Southeastern Louisiana. The game against the Lions is slated to begin at 7 p.m. from Strawberry Stadium.
