'Jacks Prepare to Host Southeastern Louisiana on Senior Night
Nov. 10, 2011
NACOGDOCHES, Texas - LUMBERJACKS SET FOR REGULAR SEASON HOME FINALE: The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks (4-5/3-2 SLC) enter the 2011 regular-season home finale looking to extend a three-game win streak. The Southeastern Louisiana Lions come to town looking to disrupt Senior Day, and put an end to the 'Jacks chances of finishing the season above .500. The Lions also enter the game looking to end an otherwise lackluster season on a positive note. SLU has dropped two straight, and six of the last seven contests entering Saturday's game, but did record an impressive 38-28 victory over Texas State during that stretch. Saturday's game is slated to kick off at 6 p.m. from Homer Bryce Stadium.
SFA vs. THE LIONS: The Lumberjacks are 8-5-1 (.607) all-time against Southeastern Louisiana. SFA has won the past three games in the series, and four of the past five, including a 51-14 decision last season in Nacogdoches. The 'Jacks are 4-2 (.667) since Southeastern Louisiana brought back the football program following a 20-year hiatus. SFA is 2-2 (.500) in games played in Nacogdoches dating back to the 1981 season.
SAYING GOOD-BYE TO THE SENIORS: Twelve seniors will be playing their final home game at Homer Bryce Stadium Saturday. The 2011 senior class consists of eight All-SLC selections and two All-Americans, and was key in helping bring back-to-back conference titles to SFA. The 2011 senior class includes George Bias, Gordon Booker, Derrick Choice, Devin Ducote, Jacob Fincher, Drew Nelson, Romeo Robinson, Weekendfer Saurit, Brandon Scott, Wayne Thompson, Willie Watkins and Ben Wells.
CHASING DOWN THE RECORD BOOKS: Two Lumberjack receivers are the verge of making program history. Junior Gralyn Crawford caught six passes at Lamar, and needs only three more catches to become the school's all-time receptions leader. He needs only 543 yards receiving, and 384 all-purpose yards to set new school records in each category. Classmate Cordell Roberson needs only five more touchdown receptions to become the program's all-time leader in that category.
THE DEFENSE DOESN'T REST: Saturday's win marked the second time in the last three weeks that SFA has held and opponent to less than 200 yards of total offense. It was also the third consecutive week that an opponent has failed to rush for 100 yards against the 'Jacks. SFA has also recorded 18 sacks in past two contests.
WIN STREAK: The Lumberjacks will take a modest three-game win streak into Saturday's contest against Southeastern Louisiana.
THE COACHES: J.C. Harper became the 18th head coach of the SFA Lumberjack football team in December 2006. A two-time SLC Coach of the Year, Harper has guided SFA to consecutive conference titles and NCAA playoff appearances. Harper is 27-30 (.474) in five seasons as a head coach. Southeastern Louisiana head coach Mike Lucas is 18-39 (.316) in his fifth season with the Lions.
