SFA to Host League-Leading Central Arkansas

Nov. 13, 2008

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack football team (4-6/2-3 SLC) returns home for the final two games of the 2008 season, and looking to put an end to a three-game conference slide. After jumping out to a 2-0 league mark, SFA has come back to the pack after dropping its last three contests. The 'Jacks will look to reverse that trend Saturday as No. 15 Central Arkansas comes to town. The Bears enter Saturday's game alone atop the SLC standings with an 8-2 (.800) overall record, and a 4-1 (.800) conference mark. Saturday's game is slated to begin at 6 p.m. from Homer Bryce Stadium. Saturday's game will also mark the fourth nationally ranked team the 'Jacks have played this season.

SFA vs. THE BEARS: The Lumberjacks are 0-2 all-time against Central Arkansas, and 0-1 all-time against UCA in Nacogdoches. The first meeting between the two schools came during the 2006 season when SFA dropped a two-point decision, 37-35, at Homer Bryce Stadium. The Lumberjacks made their first-ever trip to Conway, Ark., last season but lost a hard fought battle, 35-23.

ALONE ON THE MOUNTAIN TOP: It's hard to think that the Lumberjacks could come anywhere close to an encore performance of their record-breaking rampage that took place in Huntsville, Texas, on Nov. 1. But SFA proved it wasn't finished rewriting the record books this year. Senior Dominique Edison hauled in 11 passes for 140 yards against the Cowboys. With his fourth reception of the game, he became the school's all-time leader with 167 receptions. He currently has 174 for his career eclipsing the previous mark set by James Noble during the 1985 season.

MORE RECORD BOOK DEMOLITION: Despite the setback, sophomore quarterback Jeremy Moses threw four touchdown passes at McNeese State. Moses becomes only the second Lumberjack in school history (Todd Hammel, 1989) to throw at least 37 touchdown passes in a single season. He also becomes only the second Lumberjack to throw for at least 3,300 yards in a single season (Todd Hammel, 1989). Moses needs only 15 more completions to become the school's single-season leader in that category.

Up Next: The Lumberjacks will close out the 2008 regular-season Saturday, Nov. 22, when they face Northwestern State in the "The Battle for the Chief." The game is slated to begin at 6 p.m., but could be moved to 4 p.m. to accommodate the possibility television.
