FRISCO, Texas - Stephen F. Austin senior punter Ryan Gooch truly saved his best for last. Gooch was named Southland Conference Special Teams Player of the Week for his record-setting performance at Northwestern State.

Gooch, who has averaged just over 37 yards per punt during each of his three seasons on campus, recorded a 42.8 yards per punt average on six punts Saturday at Northwestern State. Gooch also set a new school record with his 80-yard punt in the second quarter. The record, which had stood for 11 seasons, was originally set by Chad Stanley against Northwestern State during the 1996 season.
