Moses Invited to Payton Award Presentation
Dec. 1, 2010
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Stephen F. Austin senior quarterback Jeremy Moses is one of three players that have been invited to Frisco, Texas for the Walter Payton Award Presentation Ceremony. The presentation of the Walter Payton Award, the FCS' version of the Heisman Trophy, will be Thursday, Jan. 6, on the eve of the FCS National Championship game.
The other two players, both quarterbacks, are Western Illinois' Matt Barr and Appalachian State's DeAndre Presley. All three individuals have been named players of the year in their respective conferences.
Moses continued his record-setting career throughout the 2010 campaign. A two-time SLC Player of the Year selection, Moses became the Southland Conference's all-time leading passer in 2010. Moses became the first player in conference history to complete 1,100 passes, throw for 13,000 yards and record 12,000 yards of total offense in a career. He enters the 2010 NCAA FCS playoffs needing only 18 completions to become the all-time leader at the FCS level.
The Baytown, Texas, native completed nearly 61 percent of his passes for 3,658 yards and 34 touchdowns during his senior season, with only four interceptions. Moses has guided the nation's top-ranked passing offense for a second consecutive year, and currently leads the nation in passing yards per game, total passing yards and touchdown passes, and is among the top five in points responsible for and total offense.
The other two players being considered for the award are on the same side of the bracket as SFA. Appalachian State hosts Western Illinois Saturday morning, and if SFA defeats Villanova it would face the winner of the ASU/WIU contest.
The Lumberjacks will open the playoffs Saturday against the defending National Champion Villanova Wildcats. The game is slated to begin at 2:30 p.m. from Homer Bryce Stadium. Tickets are still available through the SFA Ticket Office at (936) 468-JACK, or on the SFA Athletics web site, www.sfajacks.com.
