    NACOGDOCHES - Stephen F. Austin supervisor of equipment and facilities Greg Payne celebrated his 50th birthday Thursday afternoon at the SFA Athletic Field House. SFA also honored Payne for his many, MANY years of service to the university.

    "It has been an honor to work with Greg Payne," said SFA Director of Athletics Robert Hill. "The fact that he still has the ability to do his job at his age is remarkable. He is a true asset to this university."

    A longtime friend of Stephen F. Austin, Payne jumped at the opportunity to work in Nacogdoches.

    "SFA is the only place I've dreamed of working," said Payne. "I remember the first time I drove to Nacogdoches, in my brand new Model T, this was the place that I wanted to be."

    Payne was showered by gifts, before being treated to cake and punch. The birthday party had to be cut short because Payne had not yet taken his afternoon nap.
