Hafford Named First Team All-America

NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- Lumberjack defensive back Brent Hafford, a senior from Jasper, has been named to The Sports Network's All-America First Team defensive unit. He is one of two Southland Conference players to earn first team honors. The team was voted on by a panel of media members and sports information directors.
Hafford started all 11 games at safety for the Lumberjacks and finished the season with 102 total tackles and led the team with a career high five interceptions. He was tops in the Southland Conference with four forced fumbles, third in passes defended with 12 and fourth in fumbles recovered with two. He earned first team all-conference honors for the second straight year as a senior and was also named the SLC Defensive Player of the Year in a vote of conference head coaches.
A three year starter with the Lumberjacks, Hafford had his second straight 100 plus tackle season as a senior and was also selected to appear in the I-AA All-Star game that was to have been played later this month in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. That was game was cancelled due to financial problems with the sponsoring entity, The Football Network. He also earned second team All-America honors last season as a junior.
He ended his SFA career with 265 total tackles, 30 passes defended and seven interceptions.
