SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The youthful Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack golf team got out to a slow start for the 2008 spring season Tuesday afternoon. The Lumberjacks dropped a spot at the UTSA Oak Hills Invitational to finish tied for 10th overall. SFA finished the two-day tournament with a 44-over par 896. Mississippi State won the invitational recording a three-round score of 864.

Freshman Michael Smith led SFA shooting a nine-over par 222 to finish tied for 25th overall. Smith was one of three Lumberjacks to shoot a three-over 74 on the final day of the tournament (Kyle Robbins and Matthew Oates).

Freshman Jacob Taylor shot a five-over 76 on the final day to record a three-round score of 226, which placed him tied for 33rd overall. Robbins recorded the third-lowest round for SFA shooting a 79-73-74 - 226. Robbins finished the tournament tied for 43rd overall.

Oates showed improvement in the final two rounds of the tournament finishing with a 83-77-74 - 234. Oates ended the day tied for 72nd overall. Freshman Justin Weant shot an 82 on the final day to finish the tournament 83rd overall with a 243.

The Lumberjacks return to action Monday, March 17, when they travel to Little Rock, Ark., for the UALR Collegiate Classic. The two-day three-round classic will conclude Tuesday afternoon.
