Lumberjack Golf Finishes 11th at Border Olympics

LAREDO, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack golf team fired a 298-300 - 598 on the opening day of the Border Olympics Friday afternoon at the Laredo Country Club. Senior Mitchell McLeroy leads the Lumberjacks with an opening-day 144 on the 7,125-yard, par 72 course. McLeroy opened the day with a four-under 68, but struggled in the second round with a four-over 76 to finish tied for ninth.
Sophomore Blake Pugh is just outside the overall top 10 only a stroke back of McLeroy. Pugh was the 'Jacks most consistent player on the afternoon carding a 72-73 - 145. He is 14th entering Saturday's final round of action.
Sophomore Austin DeWitt finished the day tied for 52nd overall with a 153. Classmate Cody Wing recorded an 80-77 - 157 to place 67th heading into Saturday's final round of action. Freshman Luke Sheehan is two strokes back of Wing (159) and will enter the final round tied for 68th.
SFA returns to the course Saturday at 8 a.m. to close out the final round of the Border Olympics. The 'Jacks will be paired up with Washington State, Texas-Arlington and Sam Houston State.
