NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack golf team could make up only one place in the final round of the Weisner Chevrolet/Bearkat Golf Classic held at Bentwater Country Club in Montgomery, in spite of a final round 294 earlier today. The 'Jacks finished the tournament in tenth place, moving up only one spot following the first day of competition.

Trey Schroeder, a junior from Pflugerville, shot rounds of 74-74-70, 218, to finish in a tie for 20th place to lead SFA. Longview senior Lance Dunaway finished one stroke back of Schroeder at 219 following rounds of 68-76-75, in a tie for 24th.

The Lumberjacks shot rounds of 292-300-294 to finish in a tie for tenth place with Cincinnati, only one stroke behind eighth place, University of Arkansas. UT-San Antonio claimed the tournament title, firing rounds of 287-290-285 for an 862 total. The University of Louisiana-Monroe was the only other Southland Conference team finishing ahead of the Lumberjacks, shooting a three round total of 875, good for seventh place.

SFA opens defense of their Southland Conference Co-Championship next Monday in West Columbia at the 2000 SLC Championships at Columbia Lakes Golf Club. SFA and UT-Arlington tied for the Championship last April at Tyler's HollyTree Country Club.
