'Jacks Tied for Seventh at Kiawah Invitational

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. - The Stephen F. Austin men's golf team fired a 307 in the opening round of the Invitational at Kiawah Sunday afternoon, and are currently tied for seventh overall. Led by sophomore Austin DeWitt, who fired a one-over par 73, the Lumberjacks are only eight strokes out of the top three heading into Monday's second round of action. DeWitt is currently tied for fifth overall. Senior, and 2012 NCAA Regional participant, Mitchell McLeroy is four strokes off DeWitt's pace. He is currently tied for 28th overall. Sophomore Blake Pugh fired a one-over 78 and is currently tied for 37th. The Lumberjacks have three newcomers fighting to get into the team's top three. Freshman Major Monzingo recorded the team's fourth-lowest score with his seven-over par 79. He is currently tied for 51st overall. Freshman Bradley Phelps (T68) is two strokes back of Monzingo, while classmate John Luke Sheehan is tied for 82nd with a first-round 83.
