Lumberjack Golf Finishes 11th at UTA

FORT WORTH, Texas - A youthful Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack golf team entered the final round of the UTA/Waterchase Invitational Tuesday morning with high hopes after posting an opening day 295-293 - 585. But the Lumberjacks shot a final-round 310 to finish 17 strokes off their Monday afternoon score. SFA finished the tournament tied for 11th overall with a three-round score of 295-293-310 - 898. Freshman Jacob Taylor led the Lumberjacks' effort with a three-over par 219 to finish tied for 14th overall. Classmate Michael Smith was seven strokes off Taylor's pace with a 226. Smith finished tied for 48th overall. Freshman Kyle Robbins finished tied for 52nd overall after recording a three-day score of 227 (11-over par). Robbins entered the day tied for 32nd, only three strokes over par, but struggled in the final round shooting an eight-over 80. Freshman Justin Weant recorded a 73-79-79 - 231 to finish tied for 66th overall. Sophomore Matthew Oates rounded out the 'Jacks' scoring by shooting a 16-over par 232. Oates finished the invitational tied for 68th overall.
