SFA Leads Southern Chrysler Crown Classic After Day One
Oct. 11, 2004 LUFKIN, Texas -- The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack golf team enters Tuesday's final 18 holes of play of the Southern Chrysler Crown Classic looking to make it two straight tournament titles after rounds of 288-284 Monday. SFA enters the final round of play with a 14 stroke lead over second place Sam Houston (290-296) and 18 shots ahead of Rice (299-291) and McNeese State (297-293), tied for third. The 'Jacks are coming off a tournament title two weeks ago at the UL-Monroe / Fred Marx Invitational. The 'Jacks placed five players among the top 11 in the field with Jeremy Ice, and Dustin Byrd tied for third at two under par, 142. Trevor Sauntry and James McLeod are among a group tied for fifth two shots back at even par, 144. Brian Grossman is at 146, in a tie for 11th. Ice shot an opening round 72, then followed with a two under par, 70 Monday afternoon. Byrd shot rounds of 71-71 and Sauntry fired rounds of 71-73 for the 'Jacks. McLeod is playing as a medalist for the Lumberjacks and shot 71-73 Monday. The final 18 holes of play will get underway Tuesday morning with tee times off one and 10 beginning at 7:30 a.m.
