SFA Golf 11th after First Day at UTSA Invite

KERRVILLE, Texas - After struggling in the opening round of the UTSA/Comanche Trace Invitational Monday morning, the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack golf team rallied to shoot a four-over 292 in the second round. SFA is currently 11th (302-292 - 594) of 14 teams heading into Tuesday's final round of action. SMU is the overall team leader after recording an opening day score of 284-278 - 562.
The Lumberjacks currently have two players in the field's top 20. Freshman Kyle Robbins is the team's overall leader after shooting an even par 144. He is currently 15th overall, just one stroke ahead of classmate Michael Smith.
Smith who opened play with a three-over par 75 in the first round, battled right back in the afternoon round, shooting two-under par. He heads into Tuesday's final round tied for 16th overall with a 145.
Freshman Jacob Taylor shot an opening round 77, but was able to improve his score by two strokes in the second round. Taylor is currently tied for 47th with a 152. Classmate Justin Weant recorded a 77 in both rounds to finish the day tied for 53rd overall with a 154. Sophomore Matthew Oates shot a 79-76 - 155 to place tied for 58th heading into Tuesday's final round.
The Lumberjacks will close out the 2007 UTSA/Comanche Trace Invitational Tuesday morning with the final 18 holes.
