KERRVILLE, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack golf team entered the final day of the UTSA/Comanche Trace Invitational with a lot of momentum after recording a four-over par 292 in the second round of the event Monday. But all that momentum was lost as the 'Jacks faltered with a 306 Tuesday morning to finish the tournament tied for 11th overall (302-292-306 - 900). St. John's rallied on the final day to overtake SMU by three strokes for the team championship. The Red Storm finished the tournament with a 20-under par 844.
Sophomore Matt Oates recorded the 'Jacks' best round with a three-over 75. He finished 50th overall, which was the team's third lowest score of the tournament.
Freshman Kyle Robbins led SFA with a four-over par 220. He entered the final day of competition 15th overall, but shot a four-over 76 to finish tied for 22nd. Classmate Michael Smith was one stroke back of Robbins, shooting a 75-70-76 - 221. Smith finished the tournament tied for 27th overall.
The Lumberjacks return to action Sunday, Nov. 4, when they will travel to Many, La., to compete in the Battle on the Bend Intercollegiate. The tournament will be hosted by Louisiana-Lafayette.
