Golf Shoots Consecutive 308, Falls One Spot

MANY, La. - In a mirror image of Sunday's opening round of action, the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack golf team recorded a 20-overa par 308, but lost ground on the field falling to seventh overall. SFA struggled Monday recorded the third-highest round among the nine-team field. Freshman Michael Smith leads the Lumberjacks, by repeating his first-round 75, from yesterday. Smith is currently tied for 14th overall with a six-over par 150. Classmate Jacob Taylor cut three strokes off yesterday's pace to finish with a two round score of 78-75-153. He is currently tied with teammate Matt Oates for 25th overall. Oates, who led the Lumberjacks heading into Monday's round with a one-over 73, really fell off the pace in the second round. Oates fell 12 spots in the overall standings after shooting an eight-over par 80. Sophomore Richard Wilkenfeld improved by three strokes from his opening round score of 82. He is currently tied for 41st overall with an 82-79 - 161. Freshman Kyle Robbins is only one stroke back of Wilkenfeld. Robbins shot a 79 Monday to finished the day tied for 44th with a 162. The Lumberjacks return to action Tuesday morning for the third and final round of the Battle on the Bend tournament.
