Golf Climbs a Spot to Finish Sixth at the Battle on the Bend

MANY, La. - The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack golf team recorded its third consecutive 308 to finish with a 60-over par 924. The `Jacks rallied Tuesday afternoon overtaking Nicholls State on the final day to finish sixth overall.

Sophomore Matt Oates recorded the Lumberjacks' second lowest score of the day (76) to tie teammate Michael Smith for 20th overall. The duo finished with a 13-over 229.

Freshman Jacob Taylor was only two strokes back of Smith and Oates, after shooting a six-over 78 Tuesday. Taylor finished the three-round tournament tied for 26th overall, 78-75-78 - 231. Sophomore Richard Wilkenfeld recorded his lowest round of the tournament, improving by seven strokes from the first round. Wilkenfeld finished 33rd overall after shooting a 82-79-75 - 236.

Freshman Kyle Robbins rounded out the Lumberjacks scoring with a three-day score of 83-79-81 - 243. Robbins placed 46th overall.
