'Jacks Fall to Fourth at Fall Beach Classic

GULF SHORES, Ala. - The Stephen F. Austin men's golf team was unable to maintain its momentum from the opening round of the ASU Fall Beach Classic and dropped to fourth after firing a 309 Tuesday afternoon at the Peninsula Golf and Racquet Club in Gulf Shores, Ala. The Lumberjacks fired a three-round 297-291-309 - 897, while No. 15 Vanderbilt rallied to win the event by nine strokes (289-300-293 - 882). Freshman Luke Sheehan was the lone Lumberjack to finish among the top 10. He posted a six-over 78 Tuesday to finish with a three-day total of 221. Sheehan was sixth overall. Senior Mitchell McLeroy posted one of the worst rounds of his career with an eight-over 80 (72-73-80 - 225) to finish tied for 14th. Sophomores Blake Pugh, Bradley Phelps and Austin DeWitt each fired a 77 in the final round. Pugh was tied for 17th overall with a 226, while Phelps was two strokes back (T25th - 228). DeWitt finished the day tied for 54th (78-83-77 - 238).
