NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin announced Monday the hiring of Trey Schroeder as head coach of the men's golf team. Schroeder, a former member of the SFA team, replaces Mike Hopson, who resigned from the position earlier this year.

Schroeder, a Pflugerville, Texas, native holds two degrees from SFA. He led SFA to the Southland Conference team championship in 1999, where he finished in a fourth-place tie in the individual standings. The SLC team title was the program's third and is the most recent won by a Lumberjack squad. Schroeder was an All-SLC selection in 2000.

Schroeder holds both a bachelor's and master's degree in kinesiology from SFA. Since graduation, he has played professionally and has been involved with junior golf in the Austin area.

"Our goal is to build the golf program to a level of challenging for the conference title each year and making the NCAA tournament," SFA Director of Athletics Robert Hill said. "I believe Trey can get us there because he is passionate about golf and is willing to put in the time necessary to meet this goal."
