'Jacks Improve Score, Fall in Standings

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. - Despite cutting four strokes off their opening-round score, the Stephen F. Austin men's golf team dropped to ninth place at the Invitational at Kiawah Island. The Lumberjacks are ninth overall in the 15-team field with a two-day 307-303 - 610. Senior Mitchell McLeroy posted a team-low one-over 73 in the second round, and is currently tied for 17th overall with 150. Sophomore Blake Pugh is just two strokes back of McLeroy with a 152. Freshman Major Monzingo cut four strokes off his first-day score and sits tied for 32nd overall with a 79-75 - 154. After leading the Lumberjacks on day one, sophomore Austin DeWitt struggled Tuesday with an 83. He is currently tied for 40th overall (73-83 - 156). Freshman Bradley Phelps and John Luke Sheehan were unable to move up in the standings on the second day. Phelps is tied for 75th with a 163, while Sheehan is a stroke back.
