'Jacks Finish Ninth In First Tournament Of Year
Sept. 26, 2001 MONROE - After building a huge lead on Monday, Lamar University led by Mark Cooper, captured the Second Annual ULM/Fred Marx Invitational, Tuesday at the Bayou DeSaird Country Club. Only two schools shot below 300 due to the blustery winds and tough pin placements, with Lamar shooting a team-total 292. The Cardinals teamed to shoot rounds of 287 and 270 on Monday. Cooper finished the tournament with a 2-under 70 final round. He was one of only two players to shoot below par for the final 18-holes of play. Cooper shot 71 and 64 on Monday and ended with a remarkable three-round total of 205. Teammate Chris Stroud was the tournament runner-up with a 213 (72-67-74). Halli Heimisson of Louisiana Tech was third (71-70-74, 215), and Shawn Stefani of Lamar was fourth (72-69-76, 217). Alabama-Birmingham and Tulane tied for second 35 strokes behind Lamar having a three-round total of 884, with Southern Mississippi finishing fourth with a 891 total. SFA moved up from 12th place to ninth in the final round after shooting the sixth best round of the day, a 307. Tim Specihert was the top finisher for the Lumberjacks, tyring for the 12th spot overall with rounds of 75-73-74. Other SFA Finishes were: |
