SFA Eighth at Battle on the Bend

MANY, La. - The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack golf team finished strong Wednesday with a team score of 298 on the final day of the Louisiana-Lafayette Battle on the Bend to finish the event in eighth place. The Lumberjacks were ninth after two rounds, but every member of the team shot 76 or lower on the last 18 holes, giving SFA a four-stroke edge over ninth-place Texas State.
Senior Jason Landry and freshman Jonathan Porter led the `Jacks Wednesday with a pair of 74s. Sophomore Chad Spencer and freshman Josh Irving each finished at 75, and senior Brian Grossman carded a 76, as SFA broke 300 for the first time in the tournament. Two Lumberjacks cracked the Top 25 in the individual standings with Grossman coming in at No. 21 and Spencer finishing in a tie for 22nd.
The eighth-place finish is the highest for SFA this season and comes in the Lumberjacks' fall season finale. SFA will resume play in the spring.
