Ladyjacks Hammer Southeastern Louisiana
Jan. 11, 2003
HAMMOND, La. -
The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack basketball team won its fifth consecutive game Saturday afternoon, knocking off Southeastern Louisiana, 73-54. The Ladyjacks improve to 5-7 overall and 5-0 in the Southland Conference.
It was a tight game early on that saw neither team gain better than a six-point advantage. The Lady Lions led by a point, 21-20, when SFA went on a 14-0 run to close out the first half. The Ladyjacks were sparked by senior Nathesia Wright's 10 first half points. The Ladyjacks went into the intermission up, 34-21.
The Ladyjacks extended their lead to as many as 21 before the Lady Lions tried to claw their way back. SLU had cut the Ladyjack advantage to only 11 points with 6:26 remaining behind Pam Matthews game-high 20 points and 12 rebounds. But that was as close as Southeastern Louisiana would get as the Ladyjacks forged back ahead by 20 points on freshman LaToya Mills 13 points and eight rebounds.
The Ladyjacks return to action Thursday Jan. 16, against Lamar. The game is slated for a 6 p.m., tipoff at the William R. Johnson Coliseum.
