Ladyjacks Fall to Texas
Dec. 9, 2005
NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack basketball team lost to Texas, 77-56, Thursday night at the Frank Erwin Center in Austin. The loss dropped SFA to 4-4 (.500) overall and put an end to the team's three-game win streak.
Texas won the game in the paint, outscoring the Ladyjacks 36-12 in the low post. SFA struggled early missing 22 of its first 23 shots and connecting on only 4-of-36 (.111) attempts in the first half. The Longhorns also took advantage of their height in the low post recording 11 block shots.
While the Ladyjacks were struggling in the first half, Texas built a double-digit lead behind a 14-of-37 (38 percent) shooting performance in the first half. The Longhorns went into the halftime leading, 32-17, but the Ladyjacks were able to keep the game relatively close by hitting their free throws (7-of-8 in first half) and forcing Texas into nine turnovers.
SFA picked up the pace offensively in the second half, knocking down 13-of-37 (35 percent) shots, including an 8-of-19 (42 percent) effort from three-point land, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Longhorns' 28-point second-half lead.
Tiffany Jackson paced the Longhorns with 19 points and seven rebounds, while Ashley Lindsey scored 12 points and pulled down 13 rebounds.
The Ladyjacks return to action Saturday Dec. 17, when they travel to Shreveport, La., to take on Centenary. The game against the Ladies is slated to begin at 4:30 p.m., from the Gold Dome.
