Ladyjacks Face Nicholls State on Wednesday

The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack basketball team hits the road for Thibodaux, La., looking to put an end to its two-game skid as they close out their current three-game Southland Conference road swing. The Ladyjacks will be in Stopher Gym Wednesday at 5:15 p.m., to take on Nicholls State. The Ladyjacks will return to the friendly confines of the William R. Johnson Coliseum, Saturday Jan. 22, to host Lamar. The game against the Lady Cardinals is slated to begin at 4 p.m., from the William R. Johnson Coliseum.
SFA vs. the Lady Colonels: The Ladyjacks have dominated the all-time series against Nicholls State, owning a 29-1 (.967) all-time record. The lone Nicholls State victory in the series came during the very first meeting between the two teams when Nicholls State recorded a two-point victory, 53-51, over the Ladyjacks during the 1984-85 season. The Ladyjacks have since rattled off 29-straight victories. The last time the two teams met in Thibodaux, the Ladyjacks rallied for a 56-53 win during the 2002-03 season.
Tradition of Winning: The SFA Ladyjack basketball program has been one of the most dominant programs in women's basketball history. The Ladyjacks are among the nation's all-time top 10 with 745 wins. The Ladyjacks are also among the all-time top 10 with a .736 winning percentage (745-267).
Tradition of Winning in the SLC: As dominant as SFA has been nationally, they have been just as dominant in the Southland Conference. The Ladyjacks are the conference's most dominant team, compiling a 259-34 (.884) all-time record. SFA has won 14 of a possible 17 SLC tournament titles and 13 regular-season titles. SFA has also recorded four undefeated seasons in league play and has had 38 players named All-SLC.
Riley vs. the SLC: Ladyjack head coach Lee Ann Riley has compiled a dominant record against Southland Conference foes. Riley is 44-15 (.746) against SLC teams during the regular season.
Double-Double: Junior LaToya Mills led the Ladyjacks with her 19-point, 12-rebound effort against Sam Houston State. It was Mills' fourth double-double of the season and 17th of her career. It was also the fifth time this season that a Ladyjack has recorded a double-double.
Leading the Pack: After scoring in double figures only once in her previous four games, junior LaToya Mills seems to have found her touch again. Mills is averaging 16.0 points per game and 9.0 rebounds per contest over the last two games, which includes 19 points and 12 rebounds at Sam Houston State. Mills is currently fourth in the Southland Conference averaging 14.2 points per game and fifth in the league pulling down 8.4 rebounds per contest.
About the Boards: Junior LaToya Mills grabbed 12 rebounds against Sam Houston State on Saturday. Of her 12 rebounds, nine of them were offensive rebounds. Mills is currently second in the Southland Conference averaging 3.62 offensive rebounds per game.
Forcing Turnovers: The Ladyjack defense continues to be one of the best in the Southland Conference at forcing its opponents into miscues. The Ladyjacks forced Sam Houston State into 24 mistakes Saturday, marking the seventh time this season that SFA has forced an opponent into at least 20 turnovers.
Like Thieves in the Night: Senior Jaliyla Muhammad and junior LaToya Mills were very active on the defensive end against Sam Houston State. Both players recorded four steals against the Bearkats. It was a new season-high for Mills and a new career-high in steals for Muhammad. Mills is currently 10th in the Southland Conference averaging 1.7 steals per game.
Arc Angels: Junior guards Kirby Killingsworth and Britany Vinson are among the school's all-time top 10 in three-point field goals. Killingsworth is currently fourth all-time at SFA with 105 career three-pointers. Vinson is currently eighth in the SFA record books with 72 triples. Vinson is currently ninth in the SLC with a .357 three-point field-goal percentage. She led the league last season at a .373 clip. Vinson is ninth in the SLC averaging 1.54 threes per game, while Killingsworth is 11th in the league averaging 1.38.
The Great Wall of Nacogdoches: Junior Kendria Smith continues to move up the Ladyjacks' record books for career blocks. Smith blocked a shot at Sam Houston State and is currently eighth all-time at SFA with 70 career blocks. Smith is currently 11th in the SLC averaging 0.85 blocks per game.

The Ladyjacks return to the road on Wednesday Jan. 26, when they travel to Arlington, Texas to take on the Lady Mavs. The game against Texas-Arlington is slated to tip-off at 5:45 p.m., from Texas Hall. SFA will be back in Nacogdoches on Thursday Feb. 3, when they host McNeese State. The game against the Cowgirls is slated to begin at 6 p.m., from the William R. Johnson Coliseum.
