    Feb. 2, 2002

NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack basketball team survived a scare from Southeastern Louisiana, 73-64, Saturday afternoon at the William R. Johnson Coliseum. The Ladyjacks extend their winning streak to six games and improve to 14-5 overall and 11-1 in the Southland Conference.

Southeastern Louisiana controlled the first half behind strong perimeter shooting. SLU shot 54 percent in the first half and held a 15-14 edge in rebounds while cruising to a 34-30 half time lead. SFA took only its second lead of the game on two free throws by junior Amy Collins (San Antonio, Texas) at the 16:57 mark of the contest. Collins finished the game with 14 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.

SFA pushed its lead to as many as 11 points in the second half but SFA was never able to put away a Lady Lions team that was led by Velicity Burkhalter's 25-point performance.

Senior Chaquita Dilworth (Temple, Texas) led the Ladyjacks with her career-high 22-point effort. She also added six rebounds, five assists and five steals in the victorious effort. Senior Jessica Guild (Flower Mound, Texas) added 11 points and five rebounds.
