Ladyjacks Go in Search of SLC Another Road Victory
Feb. 9, 2007 NACOGDOCHES - After having split their last four games, the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks will look to post consecutive victories as they travel to Natchitoches, La., Saturday to face Northwestern State. The Ladyjacks enter the game with a 15-8 (.652) overall record, and are currently tied for second in the SLC West with a 7-3 (.700) league record. Northwestern State enters the week with an 8-15 (.348) overall record and is currently third in the SLC East with a 4-6 (.400) league mark. The Lady Demons are coming off a three-game road swing that saw them drop two of three. The Coaches Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack head coach Lee Ann Riley is 97-70 (.581) in her sixth season in Nacogdoches. She is 228-128 (.640) in her 12th season as a head coach. Northwestern State head coach Jennifer Graf is 36-43 (.456) in her third season with the Lady Demons. SFA vs. the Lady Demons The Ladyjacks are 42-16 (.724) all-time against Northwestern State. SFA has won two of the last three meetings in the series, but it has been fairly evenly matched over the course of the past six seasons. SFA is 7-6 (.538) against the Lady Demons since the 2000-01 season. The Ladyjacks ended a five-game skid against Northwestern State in Prather Coliseum with an 85-69 win last year. Double-Double Senior Evelyn Edwards has posted multiple double-doubles in her career, but none may have been more impressive than her outing Thursday night against Central Arkansas. The Little Elm native scored 14 points and pulled down a career-high 20 rebounds against the Sugar Bears. It marked the third time this season Edwards has recorded a double-double. 20-Something Senior Evelyn Edwards' career-high 20 rebounds against Central Arkansas were the most by a Ladyjack since LaToya Mills pulled down 24 at Texas-Arlington last year. Edwards became the 17th Ladyjack to record at least 20 rebounds in a game. Windex Awards The Ladyjacks dominated the glass Thursday night in the win over Central Arkansas. SFA outrebounded the Sugar Bears, 58-39, which marks the seventh time this season that the Ladyjacks have recorded at least 50 rebounds in a game. SFA recorded a season-high 59 in the victory against McNeese State. The Ladyjacks lead the league in rebounding (44.0 rpg) and rebound margin (+7.1). Dominating the Lane Senior post Charity Egenti continues to be one of the top threats in the Southland Conference. During SLC games, Egenti has taken her play to another level. She currently leads the league in scoring (19.6 ppg) and rebounding (10.4 rpg), and is currently second in blocks (1.5 bpg) during conference only games. Not Playing Like a Rookie Freshman Whitney Cormier is putting together a strong rookie campaign, which could lead to SLC Freshman of the Year honors. Cormier scored 11 points and grabbed seven rebounds against Central Arkansas. She is currently third on the team averaging 9.0 points per game. She has scored in double-figures 10 times this season, which includes a career-high 23 points at Southeastern Louisiana. -SFA- |
