Ladyjacks Chop Down Lady Cardinals
Feb. 18, 2002
BEAUMONT, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks Lamar, 80-46, Monday night at the Montagne Center. SFA improves to 19-5 (.792 win percentage) overall and 16-1 (.941) in the Southland Conference.
The first half was a game of turnovers. The Ladyjacks recorded 12 first-half turnovers but Lamar had its own problems holding on to the basketball. SFA forced the Lady Cardinals into 22 first-half turnovers and a season-high 38 for the game. Lamar also struggled from the floor connecting on only 4-of-19 (.221) first-half shots. SFA started the game sluggish offensively as well, shooting less than 30 percent with 3 minutes and 56 seconds remaining in the half. But the Ladyjacks exploded out of a timeout going on a 13-4 run sparked by an Andrea Everline (Sugarland, Texas) three-pointer, to close out the opening stanza with a 34-15 halftime lead. Everline finished the game with 13 points on 4-of-5 (.800) shooting from beyond the three-point arc.
In the second half it was more of the same from the Ladyjacks as five different players recorded double-figure points, led by senior Latisha Prater's (Cottonport, La.) second consecutive double-double (13 points and 12 rebounds). Prater also added six assists, six steals and a blocked shot. Senior Nathesia Wright (Arlington, Texas) continued her hot streak adding 13 points and pulling down six rebounds.
Lamar was led by Kenyada Frazier's 10 points and five rebounds. Teammate Eva Christian added seven points and 10 rebounds, but all seven of her points came from the free-throw line as she struggled from the floor going 0-of-11.
SFA returns to action Saturday against Louisiana-Monroe. The Ladyjacks are scheduled to get underway at 6:15 p.m., from the William R. Johnson Coliseum.
