Ladyjack Basketball Advances To The Finals In The 2001 SLC Tournament
March 9, 2001 SHREVEPROT, Louisiana -- The Stepehn F. Austin State University Ladyjack basketball team defeated Texas-San Antonio 49-32 to advance to the Ceerall and 128 (6.4ppg) conference points this season. CenturyTel Southland Conference Classic Championship game. The Ladyjacks were led by junior guard Jessica Guild (Dallas, Tex.). Guild scored 13 points against the Roadrunners. She shot .625 (5-8) from the field and .750 from the free-throw line. She also had six defensive rebounds. Guild has accumulated 190 (6.1ppg) overall and 128 (6.4ppg)conference points this season. Head Coach Royce Chadwick has had an impressive SLC Tournament record of 15-1 (as of 3/9/01). Chadwick is approaching his 400th overall career win. As of 3/9/01 Chadwick has a career record of 399-131 (.753). At SFA he has accumulated an impressive record of 172-43 (.800). Chadwick has been coaching for 17 seasons including the 2001 season. He has coached at several schools including Panhandle State, Sam Houston State, Howard College and SFA. Chadwick could clinch his 400th overall career win against Northwestern State on Saturday, March 10, 2001. The Ladyjacks have been to the championship game of the conference tournament on 14 consecutive occasions since joining the SLC during the 1987-88 season. SFA and Northwestern State have feced each other on seven different occasions in the SLC Tournament. All of these meetings have been in the championship game with SFA winning all seven to advance to the NCAA Tournament.
