Ladyjacks Return to the SLC Finals
March 11, 2006 NACOGDOCHES - For the second time in three days, the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack basketball team is pushed to the brink, but emerges victorious. The top-seeded Ladyjacks rallied for a 72-71 overtime victory over No. 5 seed Louisiana-Monroe Wednesday to advance to the O'Reilly Auto Parts Southland Conference Championship game for the first time since the 2001-02 season. The Ladyjacks will host No. 3 seed Texas-San Antonio in the championship match up. SFA (22-7) enters the conference final a winner of seven straight and 12 of its last 13. The Roadrunners (18-11) have won four consecutive games and six of their last eight. UTSA is making its first trip to the conference tournament finals since the 2002-03 season. Making a Return to the Finals: The Ladyjacks are making their 15th trip to the SLC tournament finals, but its first since the 2002 season. The Ladyjacks are 14-1 (.933) all-time in the SLC finals. The Ladyjacks' lone loss in the finals was a 77-65 setback to Texas State (1997). The Ides of March: The Ladyjacks enter the 2006 Southland Conference Championship game looking to win their 15th SLC tournament title and make their 18th appearance in the NCAA Championships. Up Next ... If the Ladyjacks win the SLC Tournament, they will receive the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Championships. The first round of the tournament will be Saturday, March 18th and Sunday, March 19th. |
