Ladyjacks Ink Two High School Standouts
April 10, 2002
NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack basketball team signed forward Kendall Holley and guard Britany Vinson to National Letters of Intent Wednesday announced SFA head coach Lee Ann Riley.
"These two young ladies that we've signed make us a better team," said Riley. "We are thrilled to have them joining our program. Players are always ranked differently coming out of high school but we'll find out how good they will be in couple of years. We think this class is going to be an awfully good team but when you look at our roster we are going to be a really young next season."
Holley is a 6-foot forward who averaged 18 points, 12 rebounds, three steals and two blocks per game for McKinney High School. Holley led her prep squad to the bi-district playoffs her junior season and the bi-district championship her senior year. She is a two-time all-district selection who was named 2001-02 District 6-5A MVP. Holley also was named to the all-region team as a senior.
"We are really excited about Holley's addition to the team," said Riley. "Holley is a very strong and physical low post player who can score in traffic. Her strength on the low block fills a need for our program. She comes from a very good high school program, which plays in a tough district, and she earned district MVP honors. We targeted her as a player that we wanted a long time ago."
Vinson, 5-6 point guard from Prattville, Ala., is originally from Waco, Texas. Vinson averaged 28.4 points per game while shooting 52 percent from the floor as a senior. She was also accurate on 43 percent of her three-point attempts. Vinson also averaged seven rebounds and five steals per contest during her senior season at Prattville. She earned all-state honors and was the Autagua County player of the year. Vinson was also selected to play in the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star game.
"Britany is originally from Texas where she played at Waco Midway High School but her dad was transferred to Alabama this year," said Riley. "She is a point guard who can score and we needed a point guard. Britany is the total package because she can shoot, defend and she is a really good academic student."
