Ladyjacks Add Assistant Coach
Sept. 9, 2004 NACOGDOCHES - Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack head basketball coach Lee Ann Riley has added Amanda Went as an assistant coach announced Riley Thursday afternoon. Went replaces Krissy Riggs who was promoted within the program back in July. Went comes to Nacogdoches from Bemidji State where she spent the past two seasons as an assistant basketball coach and the head softball coach. During her time at Bemidji State, Went assisted with all phases of the Beavers basketball program, including recruiting, in-game coaching and player training and development. Went arrived at BSU with the responsibility of helping head coach Mike Power revitalize a Beaver program that had seen only eight wins in the two previous seasons. In her first season Bemidji State more than doubled that win total, recording nine victories. Last season the win total grew to 14 as the Beavers finished only a game shy of the .500 mark, the program's best finish since the 1995-96 season. Prior to her arrival in Bemidji, Minn., Went was a graduate assistant coach at Nebraska-Kearney. During her one season at UNK, she helped guide the Antelopes to their fifth consecutive Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference title. Went was a four-year lettermen at Nebraska where she was named team captain as a senior. She guided the Huskers to three NCAA Tournament berths during her career and her name is still listed among the school's all-time top five in three-point field goals and three-point field-goal percentage. Went was also a three-time Academic All-Big XII selection. The Ladyjacks tip-off the 2004-05 season Friday Nov. 19, against Rice. The game is slated to begin at 7 p.m., in the William R. Johnson Coliseum. -SFA- |
