FRISCO, Texas - The defending Southland Conference champion Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack basketball team has been picked to finish second in the league's west division announced league officials Thursday afternoon. Both the league head coaches and sports information directors selected SFA to finish second behind Texas-Arlington. Southeastern Louisiana was picked to the win the SLC East in both polls.

The Ladyjacks received three first-places votes and 51 total points in the head coaches poll. Preseason favorite Texas-Arlington received seven first-place votes and 62 total points. Texas-San Antonio also received some recognition to win the SLC West.

The order was the same in the sports information directors poll, but there was more disparity over who would win the West. Four of the division's six teams received first-place nods in the poll. UTA garnered five first-place votes and 60 total points, just beating out the Ladyjacks who received four first-place votes and 54 total points. Texas-San Antonio (two) and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (one) also received first-place votes.

The Ladyjacks return two starters and eight letterwinners from last years NCAA Championship team. The Ladyjacks will open the season Wednesday, Nov. 8, with an exhibition against Texas A&M-Commerce. The regular season begins Friday, Nov. 10 at Tulane. The game against the Green Wave slated to begin at 7 p.m.
