COLUMBIA, SC - In their first competition of the spring season, the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks were defeated by the South Carolina Gamecocks, 14-5, Saturday in Columbia, SC. The loss moves SFA's record to an overall 4-3 on the year.

In Western competition, the Ladyjacks tied the Gamecocks, 5-5, but a 1.5 point difference in the raw score of 642.5-641 gave SFA the loss. Kyra Cruse and Jessica Weaver took the points in the horsemanship division. Weaver outscored her opponent, 73-73.5, to take the win while Cruse took the 72-67.5 win and was named horsemanship MVP. In the reining portion of the competition, Jamie Melgares, Jenny Martin and Weaver took the wins to give the Ladyjacks a 3-2 edge over USC.

In Hunt Seat competition, the Ladyjacks were swept, 9-0.

SFA will compete again tomorrow when it faces Auburn in Auburn, Ala.
