Feb. 2, 2008
NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The SFA equestrian team outscored Baylor in the total scoring column on Saturday, but lost 10 of the 16 head-to-head battles to fall 10-6 to the Lady Bears at the Walter C. Todd Agricultural Center. SFA finished with a total of 1102.5 points compared to the Lady Bears' 1057.5 points, but Baylor won 3-1 in both equitation over fences and western horsemanship to provide the final margin. Randi Spencer picked up MVP honors in equitation on the flat with a score of 78 points, easily defeating Nicole Brown by 12 points. Alex Fincher picked up her third head-to-head win of the season with a 68-58 win in the same discipline. Despite the pair of double-digit wins, the Lady Bears were still able to squeak out a pair of wins by Mary Smitson and Cara Wilson. Spencer picked up the only other Ladyjack point in hunt seat competition over Kendra Vicary in equitation over fences, but the SFA would be outscored 5-3 overall on the hunt seat side. The Ladyjacks did the majority of their damage in reining, picking up a pair of points from Lydia Roof and Felicia Shartle in outscoring Baylor 284.5-212.5. Western horsemanship saw Jenny Martin as the lone Ladyjack to crack the scoring column, notching a 73.5-65.5 win over Maggie Griffin. The Ladyjacks will take some time off before hosting its next show versus Tennessee-Martin on Feb. 29. -SFA-
