SFA Hosts First Academic Advising Day
Oct. 19, 2010
NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The academic and athletic departments at Stephen F. Austin intertwined on Tuesday as a number of academic advisors made their way to the athletics field house for the first Athletic Advising Day.
"With over 300 student-athletes at Stephen F. Austin juggling events and practice along with classes, meetings and other responsibilities it is at times difficult for them to find the time to be properly advised," Assistant Director of Student Services Haley Blount said. "This was a wonderful example of not only the rapport that we share with other departments across campus, but also of the dedication that our academic advisors have to our student-athletes."
Advisors from departments such as nursing, the College of Science and Math, as well as for undecided majors were all in attendance. Advisors from the department of Kinesiology and Health Science also set up shop for a three-day stint as there are more than 100 student-athletes with a declared kinesiology major.
"We want to say thank you to all of the advisors that took the time to come over and assist our student-athletes," Blount said. "Hopefully this is an event that will continue to be productive and will grow in upcoming semesters."
Several of SFA's teams donated apparel and other items to show thanks to the advisors for taking part in the event.
Some of the advisors that took part in the Athletic Advising Day included Kathy Springfield, Lisa Stone, Trina Menefee, Diane Proctor, Trisha Lance, Kevin Davis, Dyson Nickel, Dan Bruton and Lynsey Cortines.
