Ladyjacks are Eighth at Islander Spring Classic

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - Despite wind gusts of up to 60 miles per hour in Corpus Christi, Texas, Monday afternoon, the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks fired an opening-round 330 and are currently eighth heading into the second round of action at the Corpus Christi Country Club's 6,093-yard, par 72 course. For the second consecutive week, the Ladyjacks have competed in a tournament that saw the opening day of action cut short due to poor weather conditions. Play was suspended Monday following wind gusts of up to 60 mph. Freshman Sydney Reed leads the Ladyjacks after carding an opening-round 79, and is currently 11th overall. Junior Aliece Anderson is just two strokes back of Reed, with her first round 81. Anderson enters the second round of play tied for 21st. Senior Chelsea Simmons struggled down the back nine to finish the day tied for 36th with an 84. She is two strokes ahead of teammate Mackenzie Steiner who is tied for 51st. Junior Sara Jones closed out the day for the Ladyjacks with her opening-round 87. She is tied for 56th entering Tuesday's second round of play. The Ladyjacks are slated to tee off at 8:15 Tuesday morning for the second and final round of action.
