Oct. 16, 2012
JONESBORO, Ark. – The Stephen F. Austin women’s golf team fired their second lowest round in program history, firing a 310-312-304 - 926 to take fourth place Tuesday, in the Lady Red Wolves Classic at Sage Meadows Country Club in Jonesboro, Ark.
The Ladyjacks were led by senior Chelsea Simmons, who fired a 72 in her final round to take eighth place on the 6,106 yard, par-72 course. The Austin native cut four strokes off her previous two rounds to shoot a 224 combined score over two days, to be the Ladyjacks’ lone representative in the top-10. Simmons’ par-72 in the final round tied for the lowest recorded card of the day.
Junior Aliece Anderson was unable to improve on her position from the opening day of competition, as she carded a 77 to hold on to a share of 12th place. The sole junior for SFA fired a combined 229, finishing just three strokes out of the top-10.
The freshman trio of Sydney Reed, Julia Bazaldua and Amanda Mire, finished within two strokes of each other to take 27th (81-80-80 - 241), 32nd (83-76-83 - 242) and 34th (88-80-75 - 243) overall to round out the lineup for SFA.
The Ladyjacks return to action Monday Oct. 22 at the Memphis Invitational in Memphis, Tenn.
