SFA Golf Has Strong Opening Day at Centenary

The Stephen F. Austin men's and women's golf teams are first and second, respectively, after the opening day of action at the Hal Sutton-Centenary Classic in Shreveport, La. The 'Jacks fired a 589 to take a five-stroke lead into the final day, while the Ladyjacks shot a 640 and are second overall.
The Lumberjacks placed three players in the top five, including Mitchell McLeroy who is taking a two-stroke lead into the final round. McLeroy carded a one-under 143 Monday to lead the field. Seniors Ricky Wilkenfeld and Kyle Robbins are three strokes back with a two-round 146. Both Wilkenfeld and Robbins enter the final 18 holes tied for fourth overall.
The SFA women also did a good job grouping their five players together. The Ladyjacks are currently led by senior Noelle Willcoxon, who his sixth overall with a score of 157. Tied for seventh place overall are sophomore Allison Flake and freshman Marissa Bransburg, who both shot a total of 160 after the opening rounds. Not far behind the two, was teammate sophomore Chelsea Simmons with a score of 83-82-165, placing her in 10th overall. Freshman Aliece Anderson shot an 83 in her second round, to put her in 20th place.
The SFA men and women will be back in action in the final round of the Hal Sutton Intercollegiate with the third round Tuesday morning.
