April 14, 2013
The 12th annual Southland Conference Women's Golf Championships are set to get under way Monday morning at the Frisco Lakes Golf Club in Frisco, Texas. It will be the first time the 5,977-yard, par 72 course as hosted the event.
The Ladyjacks rallied on the final day of the SLC Championships last year to record the best finish at the tournament in conference history, and enter Monday's opening round playing some of the best golf of the season. After battling their way into the top 10 at the Lady Eagle Classic, the Ladyjacks turned in two of the best rounds in program history in the Challenge at Onion Creek. SFA fired a program-best 294 in the second round of the tournament, and closed out the tournament with a strong 305 in the third round. The Ladyjacks were led by senior Chelsea Simmons who carded a program individual low round of 69 in the second round.
The conference tournament is slated to tee off Monday at 8 a.m. Pairings are based on team seeding, which is calculated using the Golfstat rankings. Players will play 18 holes of golf Monday and Tuesday before playing the final round of 18 holes Wednesday.
