Jaime Frias

Player Profile

Position:
Head Coach

Experience:
Third Season

Alma Mater:
Centenary College, 2000

As Jaime Frias enters his third season as head coach of the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack soccer team, he is guiding the program through the most prosperous era in school history. In the last four seasons, SFA has posted a combined record of 49-22-6, the best mark of any four-year stretch in program history and the best combined record for the last four seasons among Southland Conference teams. The Ladyjacks have averaged 12.25 wins per season over the last four years, including a record-setting run in 2005.

The Ladyjacks' 2005 campaign -- Frias' first as head coach -- ranks as the best in program history. SFA posted a 14-4-0 record for the second-best win total in school history and finished with a program-best .778 winning percentage. The remarkable season included the program's fourth Southland Conference title, a school-record 11-game winning streak -- the previous best was seven, in 2004 -- and the first-ever undefeated, untied SLC run in conference history.

The Ladyjacks went 9-8-1 against a challenging slate of opponents in 2006 and finished second in the SLC with a 5-2-1 mark. SFA led the conference in goals per game, finding the net 2.12 times per outing. The Ladyjacks finished in the Top 3 in every offensive category.

Frias' impact was being felt in the Ladyjack program even before he took over the reigns. In his three years as an assistant coach, SFA won both the SLC regular-season title and tournament championship, earning the program's first bid to the NCAA championships. The Ladyjacks were 33-19-9 (.615) during Frias' three years as an assistant.

Along with the team success, the individual honors have been pouring in for the Ladyjacks since Frias' arrival. During his time on campus, SFA has enjoyed 37 selections to the All-SLC teams, including 10 first-team selections. Frias himself was named SLC Coach of the Year following the 2005 campaign, making him the second coach in SFA history to win the award. The Ladyjacks earned three of a possible four postseason superlative honors that year. SFA garnered a league Newcomer of the Year award for the second straight season in 2006 as Lauren Fricks took home the honor in her first season as a Ladyjack after transferring from Texas Tech.

The Ladyjacks have been recognized for their accomplishments in the classroom as well. SFA has garnered 14 selections to the Academic All-Southland Conference team over the past four seasons, including eight first-team selections and 2005 SLC Student-Athlete of the Year Kim Gray. Gray was a four-time academic all-conference choice.

Frias came to Nacogdoches by way of Shreveport, La., where he served as a graduate assistant at Centenary College.

In addition to his collegiate posts, Frias has been a coach at both the high school and club levels. He guided the U-17 Shreveport Futbol Club boys team to a Snicker's Cup state semifinal appearance. He also guided the Caddo Magnet boys' varsity team to the state playoffs. Frias has also served as the technical director for the 'Doches Soccer Club where he is responsible for coaching development.

During his playing days, Frias was a two-time team captain for the Centenary Gents. Frias played professional indoor soccer in Mexico for Guerreros de Aragon. He also played for Club Deportivo Guadalajara's U-18 Youth team from 1995-1996. He holds a USSF "A" License.

Frias is married to the former, Ta' Bingham, who is currently the sprints and hurdles coach for the SFA track and field team. The couple has a one-year-old daughter, Azari.
