Ladyjacks Fall at Rice

Sept. 9, 2007

Box Score

HOUSTON, Texas - Two days after a lightning-quick start against Texas Tech, the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack soccer team couldn't get going against Rice Sunday, as the Owls collected a 4-1 victory. Rice scored three goals in the first half with the only Ladyjack tally coming on an own goal by the Owls.

Rice controlled the pace of play, holding SFA to just six shot attempts, while blasting 24 shots toward the Ladyjack net. The Ladyjacks recorded just one shot on goal in the contest.

The Owls opened the scoring in the ninth minute when Kate Edwards notched her third goal of the season off a corner kick. SFA got on the board via the Rice miscue only 30 seconds later to tie the score. But the Owls would add two more goals before the 30th minute to take command, heading into the half. Rice added an insurance goal in the 60th minute.

SFA goalkeeper Crystin Pactor recorded eight saves in 90 minutes of action, as she fell to 1-2-0 on the season.

The Ladyjacks' offensive struggles against Rice came on the heels of Friday's game that saw SFA jump out to a 2-0 first-half lead at Texas Tech. The game was delayed and eventually called at halftime, due to lightning.

SFA (1-2-0) will be back in action Friday, when the Ladyjacks open a two-game Oklahoma road swing by traveling to Tulsa. SFA will take on Oral Roberts next Sunday.
