SFA Reels Off 11th Shutout, Blank Wildcats 2-0
Oct. 13, 2013
NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack soccer team extended its current win streak to six games and recorded their 11th shutout of the season in a 2-0 triumph over Abilene Christian Sunday afternoon at the SFA Soccer Field.
The weekend meeting between SFA (11-2-1, 6-1-0) and the Wildcats (11-3-1, 5-3-0) marked the first between the two schools in program history.
"What a game," head soccer coach Wally Crittenden said. "ACU is a great team and the stage was set for a very competitive match with both of our results on Friday night. We were able to shift our schemes and execute technically to a very high level today. The ability to fine tune our tactics in the normal flow of the game will continue to help us compete against very good teams. Our blend of possession and patience around the box really allowed for some very creative moments.
"As in the last couple of games, ACU's keeper did very well to keep it close. We are improving every game and are learning how to play verse various tendencies and shapes. It is an exciting time for our team for sure."
The Ladyjacks outshot ACU 26-10 on the afternoon and 8-4 on goal.
SFA took an early lead in the seventh minute of play on a header from junior defender Megan Dunnigan. The game-winning header was Dunnigan's second goal of the season and came off a corner kick from senior Brenda Salazar, one of six in the match.
SFA will take the road, traveling to Hammond, La., for a match against Southeastern Louisiana on Oct. 18 at 3:00 p.m.
